Californian musician, Jam Som collaborator and kitty-cat lover Zachary Elsasser, who goes by the name Affectionately for his solo project. Not only do we have a new single from Elsasser, but we also have news of his upcoming debut album, which is more than appropriately titled, i spend most of my time in my room. From that release, ‘when you came along’ is a softly sung love song in which the songwriter wears his heart on his sleeve. With plentiful groove, funk and hazy-pop textures, it’s unexpectedly catchy. It takes you by surprise, just as much as that previously mysterious feeling of love can do. Speaking about the song, Elsasser tells us that due to his OCD diagnosis, “it took me a long time to simplify my thoughts about how I felt about love and this song and everything. It’s difficult for me to move on from things, and I really need time to let go. However, it finally made sense when I met my partner. I took some recordings of us bowling and helping me and put it in the song because the spaces in between my anxiety are just pure and happy. I know it‘s corny, but when they came along into my life it all made sense. It’s better, it’s brighter, it’s simpler, and I think the song reflects that!
