LISTED

AMAAL

In this ‘Listed’ feature, we get to know the most radicalist up-and-coming stars through a themed list of their top musical picks.

This time we caught up Somalian-born superstar-in-the-making Amaal as she treats us to her ultimate 'feel good music' playlist.

Having immersed herself in the music and arts scene of Toronto, Canada, after emigrating in search of a better life during 90s, Amaal started to take singing seriously at the age of 16. Releasing her early singles independently, the rising R&B reached her biggest audience earlier this year with 'Not What I Thought' - the stunning lead track from her debut EP Black Dove, which managed to rack up over a million views since January.

After the arrival of 'Not What I Thought's equally impressive follow up 'Coming & Going', Black Dove dropped on the 12th of July, receiving rave reviews all round, for its luscious, socially-aware vocals and soulful soundscapes.

With that in mind, we jumped at the opportunity to find out more about Amaal's musical influences, explained below through 10 uplifting tracks.
