WHITE KITE SWANS

White Kite are the new kids on the indie-electronica block, and they’ve already claimed a firm territory with their impressive Bonobo-meets-Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes style. If you missed their introduction ‘26’, then here’s what you need to know – this band got together in London, using the flat-turned-studio that vocalist Louis Shadwick and twin brothers guitarist Tom and bassist Will Dunning share, with drummer Andrew Wildgoose an honorary flatmate. Just a month on from their debut and this four-piece are back with sophomore track ‘Swans’, which was written and produced by Shadwick, who lays out the content as “about trying to choose between two different kinds of love... how the grass always seems greener when desire takes over, and how you try to justify that weakness to yourself." Far from conflicting, the song presented is perfect sympatico, with the underwater drum loops bubbling to the surface and icy guitars spiking through the serene vocal harmonies. The band reach just the right amount of complexity with their layered electronics, which sounds lush, lustful and ever so slightly remorseful. Fingers crossed for more music from White Kite soon! - HT
