TEMPESST A LITTLE BIT OF TROUBLE

We recently spoke to the UK-based Australian band TEMPESST and of course, we had to ask about their latest psychedelic number ‘A Little Bit Of Trouble’ from their upcoming release, Doomsday EP. As we discussed, TEMPESST’s music is often misleadingly upbeat and even the heavier topics at the heart of their songs is spiked by sarcasm, a joke, or a cheeky grin. In the new music video for ‘A Little Bit Of Trouble’, the main character’s disparate life as a stripper/exotic dancer/male entertainer/your preferred interjection is given a comedic twist throughout. At the opening, this guy is “lying naked on the floor" but after splashing his face with water and putting on a pair of fetching cowboy boots, he pertains the swagger of a wild west sheriff. This illusion isn’t to last long however, as the hat and chaps come on for a raunchy performance in a seedy bar, which is fraught with its own caricatures. Somehow, through watching this cowboy-of-sorts, the Americana tone of the song’s winding strings are brought further out, but kept very much in the hazy, psychedelic world of TEMPESST. Surely, we’ll be returning to this world shortly with the release of Doomsday on July 27th. - Hannah Thacker
