SWANLIKE JUNE

We probably couldn’t summarise Norwegian band Swanlike’s sound any better than themselves who refer to it as “synthesized textures straight outta Notodden.” It seriously is all about synths with Line Kåsa, Halvor Nordal Strand, Trym Gjermundbo, Øyvind Mathisen and Sarah Nordal Strand who grandiosely mix vibrant electronic notes and crazy good arrangements with harmonised vocals, creating a wholly heavenly listening experience as we can hear in ‘June’. However, it’s not just about those pop choruses, there’s certainly an element of melancholic retrospect as the opening line spells out, “you’re gone, you’re out of my life.” More than that though, Swanlike’s latest song is surprisingly dark, as heard in the bassy vibrato and warped synth lick just after the first chorus. There’s certainly many more aspects to ‘June’ than simply missing summer. Currently based in Oslo, this is only the outfit’s fourth track release so we can be sure to expect more multi-layered, synth-driven, harmonious music to come. - HT
