Hailing from different parts of the country, Sports Team, the newest band on the scene, met while studying at Cambridge. Now they’ve turned their hand to music the band have upped sticks to Harlesden, London, where they’re tucked “between the McVities biscuit factory and an evangelical church”. While we can’t attest to the impact that this has had on their physical or mental well-being, we can attest to the fact that their debut single ‘Stanton’ is exceptionally good. Released through tastemaker label Nice Swan Records (Dead Pretties, Pip Blom), ‘Stanton’ channels influences including Childhood, Happyness and Pavement. The result is a stonking, storming, raw-edged sound, all held together by frontman Alex Rice’s drawling vocal. His dance moves are quite something to behold – catch them performing live tonight at The Old Blue Last. –HM
