Who needs caffeine when we have bolstering remixes like Nerve Leak’s epic, pitched-down version of Sleeping Lion’s ‘Morning Coffee’? The two projects crossed paths at a Sofar Sounds show in Brooklyn and connecting over their different approaches to electronic music, it didn’t take long for the Boston duo to ask NY-via-Virginia producer Sam Friedman aka Nerve Leak to transform their chilled original into a trap-heavy, bassy and intense remake. It’s just as emotional and heartbroken, but now rather than hand claps, gospel keys, and Clean Bandit-esque strings, Nerve Leak has injected a darker realm of bass, synthetic shreeches and eerie electronic beats to emphasise the powerful toll that lust and love can take. It’s equally concurrent with Sleeping Lion’s trap work and Nerve Leak’s often experimental productions, both of which are bound to leave their mark on the mind, heart and soul of any would-be listener.
