SKOTT LACK OF EMOTION

A focus point in the ever-expanding landscape of left-field pop is new name Skott. She quite literally burst onto the scene earlier this year with eerily beautiful debut ‘Porcelain’, followed by the flawless ‘Wolf’ and the industrialist ‘Amelia’. Now, we’re introduced to a misleadingly upbeat affront in the form of fourth release ‘Lack Of Emotion’. This fascinating Scandi up-and-comer Skott explains the motivations behind the latest track, "Some people seem to have this off switch, where they can shut off their emotions when things become difficult. The song is about this shell that people create - I've got this fascination and fear of it because I feel like I'm the complete opposite when it comes to emotions, I can't deny how I feel. It's a bit of a melancholic disco." The opening sequence instantly introduces this retro club style with a clipped, funky guitar progression and shoulder shuffling drum beat. The regular tambourine shake suggests a nod to her folk upbringing. Honesty is presented in Skott’s light vocal delivery, which dives to shadowy lows and flies upwardly in ecstasy. The surprise addition of a choir, morphed into ghostly specters through the velvety production further reveals those inner-demons hiding beneath that shell. ‘Lack Of Emotion’ is a song which artfully conveys our haunting emotions animated by Skott’s truly alternative pop. - HT
