TOMMY ASHBY GUILTY

A bluesy, stomping number straight from a scorched desert, Tommy Ashby's new single 'Guilty' begs to be shouted from the rafters. Pairing frazzled guitars, hand claps and a sultry bassline with Ashby's honeyed vocal, it's an earworm ode to the tangled emotions of an unfaithful lover. "‘Guilty' is about infidelity and is told from the guilty party’s point of view," Tommy explains. "I wanted to look at how people approach telling someone they love what they have done and the latent love left behind after the confession. I guess most songs are written from the victim’s perspective - I thought it would be interesting to hear the other side." And that call and response dynamic was no accident, either. "I was attracted to the kinda work song and field holler music, where a load of people would belt out tunes together, real communal music," he continues. "And then at the same time I was listening to Nick Cave and Tom Waits, the heavier side of that bluesy sound. And it all kinda squished together into this song. I just love the way blues lets you cut straight to the point; it’s a no frills music that connects straight away."
