PLATONICK DIVE WAXFALL

There’s most certainly a stirring in the Italian music scene. What was once a closed circuit, is becoming an ever expanding, diversifying and exciting realm of new music. In the last year or so, we’ve seen early Italian breakthroughs like GIUNGLA, Klune and HÅN taking to the blogosphere, and now Platonick Dive look set to join the ranks with the release of their stunning new single ‘Waxfall’, which we’re proud to premiere. As a band, Gabriele Centelli, Marco Figliè and Jonathan Nelli began making music in 2010 as a therapeutic outlet, leading to two albums, Therapeutic Portrait in 2013 and Overflow in 2015. Their past music struck a balance between post-rock and electronica, one that appears again honed in expertise on ‘Waxfall’. A cascading wall of sound bursts through after an alluring introduction of synth sweeps and choppy vocal samples, two elements that continue through the dramatic rock instrumental. There’s almost a Garage feel to the vigorous drums, which leads very well into the stripped-back interlude of EDM electronic melodies and purposeful use of autotune over the vocals. Done by any other band, this collision of dance and indie-rock would end in disaster, but Platonick Dive have mastered this niche. Speaking about ‘Waxfall’, the band introduce us to a new era: “It's the opening track of the album. It's one of the first songs we composed in the last two years we spent between the studio and the rehearsal room. It's the natural bridge between our old and new sound. You can hear the very recognizable Platonick Dive vibe in the first part and then the change leads you in a new direction. It's a song about seeing beauty in all the things that make you feel better.” -HT
