As the London-based artist pointedly explains, “I’ve always loved more sensual music,” and there’s no denying that ‘Stunnah’ delivers on the sensuality with its “raw”, “aggressive” and “yet still delicate” composition, as we hear with ONUR’S choice words. Soaked in R&B sex appeal, the song opens with grimy guitars reminiscent of L.A. grunge’n’b duo THEY., and from here the intimate atmosphere continues to build. “You fascinate me…” gestures the charismatic ONUR, utilising his voice to his fullest capacity, from silky countertenor right up to mind-blowing shrills. And the song isn’t afraid to go out on a high, as the last thirty seconds are dominated by libido-raising guitar riff, pulsating with the grit and passion of this 22-year-old newcomer. As ONUR tells us, his approach to music has been very much inspired by an idol of his - “I’ve always liked that almost James Brown ethos of not holding back and saying ‘I’ve just fucking landed’, and I think that can also be heard in this track, ONUR continues. I definitely feel as though this song is a statement more than anything else.
