NOVELTIES MOSHI MOSHI

Introducing you to the cool and crisp sound of Los Angeles duo Novelties. It’s a joint project between Kelly Mylod and Sophie Noire that only appeared six months ago with hypnotic debut ‘Intro From The Other Side’, a song celebrating counterculture. Since then, they’ve also shared ‘City’ another reduced synth-pop serum and of course their third track ‘moshi moshi’, which is the Japanese phrase used to say “hello” on the telephone. Perhaps a song about long-distance relationships, living in another country or the mixing of other cultures into your everyday world. It’s a track that leaves you feeling a little uncertain, you can’t quite get a footing on the shifting, opaque electronics and otherworldly vocal layers. There’s hints of retro space synths, dream-pop, shoegaze, techno rhythms, but nothing is rock solid. This duo and their music are currently wrapped in mystery, one that we look forward to unraveling. - HT
