MEN I TRUST PLAIN VIEW

There’s something quite special about a tour video. For the fan, we can feel part of that shared experience and learn more about the musicians we listen to. For the band, they can reflect, which is exactly what Canadian foursome Men I Trust appear to have done: “We finished this song just before our 2016 China Tour. The video we shot on our tour is very special for us because it is not a built up scenario. It is our most personal one, simply made of several everyday moments the four of us shared as good friends.” The song they’ve chosen to pair with the video certainly heightens the emotion as an objective watcher. It’s called ‘Plain View’ and opens with a mesh of quiet synths, including digital chimes emulating a bianzhong, which is a traditional Chinese instrument made of a series of bells. The rest becomes more recognisable as a Men I Trust song. Drifting and dreamy guitars pick their way over memories, downbeat drums aid the journey, and the soft harmonies speak of deep understanding, “you and I are one, will you lie with me?” It’s a beautiful song and subtly different from what we’ve heard from the Quebecer quartet before thanks to the Eastern influence. - HT
