LIYV THRONE

True to her eclectic style, Liyv surprises us once again with the twelfth (and final!) track in her one-song-a-month series, ‘Throne’. We’re used to shimmering synth-pop, a little bit of post-internet electronics and soulful sweeps, however for her last release of 2016 Liyv leaves in atypically downtempo fashion. The instrumentation is about as minimalist as it gets - a metronome in the fore, a reserved bass guitar in the back and vocals in the middle, sometimes left untouched and sometimes layered up to create a pixelated texture. Her message is as strong as ever, “they can’t stop us now”, she repeatedly states in a lackadaisical manner. It’s a finale we didn’t expect from the pastel pop advocate, but one that provides closure to this goliath year-long project. - HT
