LITTLE CUB TOO MUCH LOVE

What would Valentine's be without a little cynicism? It’s even more pallet cleansing when said cynical thoughts are packaged up in the anti-pop single ‘Too Much Love’ from British band Little Cub. As with previous singles ‘Loveless’ and ‘Breathing Space’, we’re once again impressed by Dominic Gore, Duncan Tootill and Ady Acolatse’s well-oiled sound that is every bit English indie without bending to contemporary trends and Internet-era tropes. It’s not that the band aren’t pop, we think that ‘Too Much Love’ with its Kraftwerk electronics and addictive dance rhythm certainly does fall into the pop category, but the relaxed, confident approach set on a simple base of synths, drums and vocals set Little Cub apart. Speaking on the accompanying video directed by Lily-Rose Thomas, we’re told that “For the video, we took a bunch of our experiences and experiences of our friends and reset them into a sort of modern day morality tale based around where we live. Except, there is no moral really. The decisions, good or bad, all live in the grey area where I think most of us reside. Like a Groundhog Day where no lessons are learnt and nothing really changes.” - HT
