ZOLA COURTNEY AIR IN B MAJOR

For the dreamy release ‘Nothing To Lose’, London artist Zola Courtney sends our earphoned heads further into the clouds with blissful new track ‘Air In B Major’. As we learned, the recording we’re hearing is the very same demo that ZC put together on the day she wrote it, with just a guitar, paper and pen. Sometimes it’s the simple things that work out best, and as she admits, “Although there are a few mistakes in the recording I decided to use the demo version because the vocal delivery I felt couldn’t be replaced with the same emotion and feeling that I sang it with that day.” It was pivotal for the songwriter to not only capture the atmosphere of that day, but also to impart exactly how she feels at this point in her relationship. As she goes on to share, “Air in B major is a bitter sweet song about a relationship between two people whose lives are very much intertwined with one another. It highlights that even though they argue, they can never stay angry at each other because they care too much.” The warmth and intimacy is ‘Air In B Major’ is truly something to behold, and it strikes us as sitting somewhere between Bruno Major and Lianne La Havas with those rich vocals and spacious strings. Good work ZC. - Hannah Thacker
