YONAKA RUN

We don't cover huge swathes of what you might term "traditional indie-rock" on these pages, but every once in a while, a band comes along with so much raw potential and a debut song of such impossibly infectious authority, they're too tempting to ignore. Enter new Brighton foursome Yonaka, whose first track, 'Run', received an exclusive premiere from DIY Magazine yesterday evening, ahead of their support slot - at DIY's 'Don't July To Me Baby' run of OBL free shows - with Spring King tonight. Brimming with the sort of thumping riffs that would make Jack White jump out of his skin, 'Run' retains a pop sensibility amid the alluring chaos, thanks to Theresa Davis' polished howl - and it's this combination of sweet hooks and the barnstorming melodies that could see Yonaka bridge the gap between the elastic grunge of Wolf Alice and Haim's candied kick.
