LIST PICK

WILDES BARE

Wildes' list of influences suggest she has impeccable taste. From Ella Fitzgerald to The Maccabees' Orlando Weeks, Ella Walker draws on proper songwriting skill to concoct this stunning debut effort. "Bare" is exactly that: simple, reverberating guitar picks away beneath Walker's gorgeous tones as she uses her songwriting as a way of deliberating on a situation or a relationship, as a way of asking questions she’d be too afraid to ask in everyday conversations. Wildes is in very good company somewhere amongst Daughter and London Grammar, making beautifully melancholic, starkly cold and assured beyond young (19) years folk-tinged indie. The latest release from the increasingly exciting Hometown Records, "Bare" is a flawless first cut from this potential-packed newcomer. -G.O'B
