VERA FALLING

Three months ago, we made our introductions to the solo project of beatmaker and producer to some of Denmark’s hottest musical conglomerate (namely Off Bloom, LISS, Goss and MØ) who has taken the name Vera for his jazz-inclined electronic-pop. The first offering was ‘In And Out Of Love’, an impossibly smooth slice of twanging guitars, liquid sax, and those icy synths that the Scandinavians do so well. Bringing it up to the present and Vera is assuring us that ‘In And Out Of Love’ was no one-off as he drops ‘Falling’. For this track, he crosses a collaborative bridge over to Norway to recruit the sublime vocals of Okay Kaya, who silkily repeats “I keep on failing, stuck in my head.” Backed by a softly played, Latin-style acoustic guitar and a rich patchwork of beats, both recorded samples and digitally produced, this melodic lyric circles around the sonic landscape, almost certainly becoming a fixture in the listener’s mind. It’s a deliriously good homage to late summer, one that’ll carry us through to the next season. - HT
