4AD signee U.S. Girls (aka Meghan Remy)'s newest single 'Pearly Gates (feat. James Baley)' feels like a definite shift in direction from some of her previous experimental-pop efforts. The whimsical, dreampop elements have been dropped on 'Pearly Gates' in favour of a more straight-up pop approach with its swaggering, irresistible groove firmly rooted in late nineties R&B. It's a sassy step forward for Remy with a pretty interesting backstory as she explains: "Some years back a story was recounted to me about a man attempting to convince a woman to engage in unprotected sex by saying, 'Don't worry, I'm really good at pulling out.' I thought this was a hilariously stupid thing to say and knew one day I would build a song around this line." U.S. Girls' new album In A Poem Unlimited will arrive on the 16th of February. -HLMX
