TOM WALKER SUN GOES DOWN

We're real suckers for an authentic, gravel-gargling vocal at this blog, and while Manchester-raised singer-songwriter Tom Walker mightn't have the raw forcefulness of say, Jimi Charles Moody or Kwabs, he's still got soul in spades. 'Sun Goes Down' is the newcomer's very first offering, a soaring blues-laden stomper which bumps along with hearty percussion and delicately mournful guitar licks. There's a definite hip hop undertone to Walker's work, too, with a gentle shape-shifting groove bubbling below ground and the heavy sampling of '30s chant, 'I'll Be So Glad When The Sun Goes Down' rising up simultaneously. So often emerging artists try to blend the traditional with the modern and fail to get it right, Tom Walker definitely isn't one of 'em. - DC
