London crooner Toby. (real name Toby Corton) traverses the veins of an open heart with dulcet tones and a variously expressed (but essentially the same) central lyric and title ‘You Know Me So Well’. This singer-songwriter repeats his point through emotive soul, comfortable downtempo drums (mostly brushed cymbals) and a lo-fi electric guitar, that could easily be swapped for acoustic, due to the living room show feel of this recording. It’s the kind of homely jazz that we don’t hear often in the digital music era and in our humble opinion Toby. could very well be channeling heart-breaker Amy Winehouse. ‘You Know Me So Well’ comes just two months after Corton’s BOY LOVE TAPE, which shines with more bluesy romance and that rare vocal. - HT
