THE JUNGLE GIANTS SENDING ME UR LOVING

Travelling from Australia’s golden shores to our own murky grey ones comes to vibrant indie-dance sounds of The Jungle Giants. With jangly guitars, insatiable beats, intelligent lyrics and textural diversity, there’s an awful lot of goodness to sink your teeth into in the Brisbane project’s new single ‘Sending Me Ur Loving’. The high energy and pulsating rhtyhm of the chorus certainly strikes some parallels to TMR favourite Confidence Man, which is not coincidental at all as TJG’s lead singer Sam Hales is a contributing member. Yet, in those quieter more thoughtful verses we’re putting a pin on the songwriting style of Childcare, with more similarity being delivered in the band’s stoic performance throughout the track’s music video. Uncannily reminiscent of Yorgos Lanthimos’s absurdist dystopian black comedy film The Lobster, the visuals for TJG’s romantic tune are a lighter affair and the viewer is transported to an alternative reality where the band members run a relationship rehabilitation centre. As director Julian Lucas comments, “I wanted to create a quirky world where The Jungle Giants run a manor where they help couples find their fire again. We shot the whole film on an old 16mm zoom lens to give it a filmic look, and really celebrated long zooms throughout. This also ties in nicely with people coming together or drifting apart.” The concluding frames of the video are that of unity and romantic harmony; finally in sync with the passion of The Jungle Giants’ ‘Sending Me Ur Loving’. - Hannah Thacker
