Somewhere in the cross-section of shoegaze, psychedelic pop, surf rock and experimental post-rock is where you’ll find The Derevolutions. Hailing from Boston in the States, band members Brett and Ana Karina are partners in music and in life, and the recent addition of a Derevolution baby has provided a fresh spring of inspiration for the duo. At the centre of ‘Perpetual Motion’ is the image of their baby and the symbolism of how life never ceases to move forward. There’s certainly a lullaby-esque feel to this song which sways over guitars, both the fuzzy and melodic kind, although just when you least expect it, the tempo amps up and the whole track is sent into fiery propulsion. It’s a pretty perfect reflection of the ebb, flow and unpredictability of life. - Hannah Thacker
