With already two singles under his belt this year - Teenage Priest a.k.a Taylor Van Ginkel drops a third electro gem, entitled 'Cool to You'. In this track, the L.A. solo artist uses drum machines and glorious 80's synth sounds, producing a kind of synth pop that sounds like a slowed down human league...it could soundtrack a prom dance in a coming-of-age cult classic. In the chorus the bass kicks in for the first time with seductive slides, having a narrowing, compressed effect. Taylor's vocals have an elaborate pop mix on them - he poses the question: "Am I fucking cool to you, even though I wanna be someone else...even though I hate myself?" - interestingly opening up about the insecurities you can feel when you're trying to please others rather than yourself. Guitars and electric piano intertwine, taking you into a contemplative state before the unbelievably catchy chorus hook comes in again. -Ellie Rose Davies
