TĀLĀ BEDTIME

Future pop royalty TĀLĀ shuts down a controlling relationship with sass, class and one hell of a song on ‘Bedtime’. The London artist recently launched her own label, Duchess Records, with standalone single ‘Stay Here In The Sun’ featuring Naughty Boy, and is certainly TĀLĀ's phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes moment. Following a bad breakup, she quit her label and deleted all previous material. It was paramount to start afresh and we’re quickly gathering new favourites from the duchess. ‘Bedtime’ rides on a wave of reggaeton rhythms and R&B-pop melodies all put through a sieve of magnetised particles, giving the song a digitally-rinsed aesthetic that keeps TĀLĀ’s sound on the periphery of her past experimental domain. It’s certainly her most pop offering to date, but if you’re going to make a statement that you’re over an ex, you might as well make it something that the charts, playlists and radio stations will pick up and play on repeat. - Hannah Thacker
