In an interview with The Fader earlier this year, Steve Lacy stated that the most important thing to him was “to get my sound out, work on the next Internet album which is super important and produce for others”. Having deftly turned his hand to the latter, which saw him collaborate with Kali Uchis and take cuts on the brilliant Twenty88 album, Lacy seems to have turned focus to his solo project with latest track, ‘Some’. The track is everything we’ve come to expect from the young talent: ‘Some’ is intensely funky, insanely catchy and immaculately produced. And with tracks as sophisticated as this it’s difficult to believe that the young talent has only just finished senior year. Having already received a Grammy nomination for his work on Ego Death, Steve Lacy is looking to have hit an early purple patch, and ‘Some’ is absolutely no exception. - HM
