Hailing from Rochester, New York, Spencer is certainly one to keep watching. He’s already released his third EP since 2016, and each time we’re shown a new side to this emerging artist as he continues to explore and discover himself as an artist and as a human being. His latest body of work, Want U Back EP, conveys Spencer’s lovesick emotions and post-romance perspective on life, which leaves a considerable imprint on Spencer’s lyrics. As we hear in our focus track ‘Heat Of Summer’, “and in the heat of summer / I wish the words would come out / And if you ever wondered / I love you when the sun’s out”, sung over a slick backdrop of lo-fi pop, future soul and laid-back jazz. Using the metaphor of a typical summer dalliance, Spencer expresses how he loves it when times are good, but he struggles to put it into conversation… so what do you do?
