With her second album color theory preparing for release on February 28^th, Soccer Mommy (AKA Sophie Allison) has released the lead single, ‘Circle The Drain’, and its impressive video. The tune is distant, with acoustic guitars and a dense, loud snare drum supporting hazy textures and a powerful, emotionally-driven vocal performance that matches the difficult themes the lyrics present. On the aesthetic of the track, she says “the production warps, the guitar solos occasionally glitch, the melodies can be poppy and deceptively cheerful. To me, it sounds like the music of my childhood distressed and, in some instances, decaying”. The album as a whole takes a unique structure, exploring three themes based around colours: blue to represent sadness and depression, yellow to symbolise physical and emotional illness, and grey to represent darkness, emptiness and loss.
