New Zealand natives Smokescreens are a supergroup of sorts. Featuring members of Plateaus and Terry Malts, instigators Chris Rosi and Corey Cunningham met when their bands toured together back in 2011. Having since relocated to sunny California, Smokescreens have embraced their new surroundings, channelling surfy garage-rock vibes on their brand new single 'Someone New'. There's an element of tweeness about the track, with its catchy twin, male/female vocals, which dominate the chorus, set off by fuzzy guitars, shed loads of reverb and a simple yet effective drum beat. Smokescreens' second LP Used To Yesterday will arrive via shoegaze connoisseurs Slumberland Records on the 13th of July. -Holly Mullineaux
