Today sees the release of Slide’s debut EP, Into Happiness, featuring past List Picks ‘Floating’ and ‘Laugh Some More’. Now we’re turning our attention to another moreish track from the rising Swedish duo titled ‘If You Say’. Immediately, the listener will be drawn into the stripped-back rawness of the acoustic guitar and drum combination, as well as the indie drawl of the vocals here. The melancholic atmosphere of the introduction and subsequent verses is a glimpse into the fixated mindset that lies at the heart of ‘If You Say’. As the band explain, "It´s about wanting something really really bad. Like being really strung-out essentially, you know? The lyrics are pretty straight forward and repetitive and to me that kind of resembles that tunnel vision, or fixation if you will, of someone who is an addict or very dependent on something.” However, this listlessness is counterbalanced by an energetic chorus, perhaps reflecting the elation of getting your fix on the object of your obsession. ‘If You Say’ is a great addition to the five-track Into Happiness EP, which is a highly promising start for these young guns. - Hannah Thacker
