SHHE EMMA

There’s a creeping uneasiness to SHHE’s latest single ‘Emma’. Signified by the constant drone, the shadowy electronics, the haunting reverb, the empty spaces… these are all purposeful choices by Scottish-Portuguese musician Su Shaw. She unflinchingly draws out this unsettling atmosphere to conveya relationship that is unhealthy,” as she further explains, "This is not a song about unrequited love. It’s about something that feels more destructive. There’s an internal drone that you hear from the beginning, this constant reminder, an uneasiness. It feels a bit symptomatic of motion sickness. It's overpowering. And there are all these mixed messages, this confusing build up of hopefulness and hopelessness.” We’ll be hearing more of SHHE’s self-confronting revelations in the approach to her debut album, set for release on 11th October via One Little Indian Records. - Hannah Thacker
