SHE DREW THE GUN SOMETHING FOR THE PAIN

She Drew The Gun’s new single ‘Something For The Pain’ has all the class, elegance and grit of sixties rock, bringing to mind the likes of The Velvet Underground and The Doors. Despite the retrospective sound and aesthetic of ‘Something For The Pain’, lead musician Louisa Rouch has taken a clairvoyant approach to the lyrics, as she explains: "The song is about a conversation with a refugee set in the future. At the point where the refugee crisis has become so big and automation so ubiquitous, that what is left of the first world finally make the decision to become a people rather than profit based society, one that treats everybody as citizens giving them their basic needs. In the video we played with the idea of that future exchange using 'Jenny Holzer' style text art to create a narrative and dancers to represent the conversation.” The black and white video – filmed by Johnny Gregory in the band’s home city of Liverpool – is a captivating mix of vintage fashion, band performance, choreography and bold lyrics that one can’t ignore. Taking hold of the listener’s attention is exactly what this Wirral four-piece intended to do with their acclaimed second album Revolution of Mind, where you’ll also find ‘Something For The Pain’. - Hannah Thacker
