This piece of hypnotic melodic house comes courtesy of Swiss producer/DJ Several Definitions. Sitting on a string of excellent releases, ‘An Other Way’ is no different, championed by the Anathema Records label for its thick, sturdy bassline and twisting piano harmonies. The piano that draws our attention for much of the introduction takes on a unique role for a house tune, with an inconsistent, rubato rhythm showing an emotion driven performance that distances itself from the often quite minimalistic, repetitive melodies of house tunes. By the time the track comes to a close, only subtle changes to the beat can be found, marking a producer confident enough in his material to keep it consistent for 8 minutes. And it works. -Dan Peeke
