SEVDALIZA TIME

Following a year long world tour, the release of soul-riveting Children of Silk EP, and the screening of debut short The Formula, TMR favourite Sevdaliza is touching base once again with new single “Time”. We’ve closely watched the ascent of this Dutch-Iranian artist with tracks “One Armed Lullaby” and “Marilyn Monroe” as choice examples of her unparalleled inventiveness. Not one to be limited by genres, “Time” is an ideal exposé of her all-encompassing attitude. Carefully composed over a year and a half and across five countries, Sevdaliza doesn’t simply mimic or quietly consider the passing minutes, hours, days etc., but this musician intimately understands time. The immediate tone is set with a haunting, minor-keyed piano melody before departing into a well-versed world of dark electronic beats. The track focuses on the art of repetition - a constant beat moving against a subtly evolving, growing and at times shrinking background. That gentle assertion moves into defiance as the synthetic notes spiral upwards into a seemingly chaotic crescendo, before cutting you off mid-movement. As Sevdaliza’s words illuminate, “I cannot be what you want me to be… in time.” -HT
