Following on from the success of 2016’s Found EP, featuring the soulful R&B-tinged title track and future funk number ‘I Got You’, Marcus Fowler is back with another slice of funk-laced heaven - ‘Same Mistakes’. Although we’re hearing this a year on from Seramic’s online arrival, it was actually one of the first tracks that Fowler wrote during early sessions in Los Angeles alongside Bag Raiders members Chris Stacey and Jack Glass, and later Tobias Jesso Jr. For the musician at the centre, this song represents how Seramic started, “blending loads of influences together and not taking itself too seriously.” It’s exactly that joyful, hip-hop structured vibe that has drawn many to this project. Listening to ‘Same Mistakes’, you can quickly dig into that jazzy beat, feel liberated through the playful production and connect with Fowler’s astonishing voice, passion and charisma.
