Creating pop music which cuts through the masses is an unenviable task. Having a right old whack at it though, is Toronto’s Saya. Following up her sultry debut effort ‘Wet Dreams’ - Saya’s new single ‘Cherry Bomb’ hints at the same reference points. Taking influence from 90’s RnB, but with a fresh, pop-leaning approach, Saya’s appeal lies in her honesty. Unashamedly sassy, and unequivocally sexy, her innuendo-laced lyrical quips are humorous, clever, and well delivered. As with her debut, hip-hop influences are clearly embedded in her make-up, but she’s executing these ideas amidst an irresistible electro-pop gleam. Having already topped the Spotify Viral Charts with her first single, we’d be surprised if ‘Cherry Bomb’ didn’t follow suit. Saya is undoubtedly here to stay. -JC
