Just when we thought (Sandy) Alex G's intoxicating lo-fi creations couldn't get any better...they did. Having announced his new album House of Sugar earlier today, the prolific bedroom-pop pioneer has shared it's phenomenal lead track 'Gretel'. Recalling the glitchy goodness of his 2014 breakthrough record DSU, droney lead lines and dark chorus progressions give way to an unexpected acoustic guitar-lead chorus, lifted by the evocative vocal hook, "I don't wanna go back, nobody's gonna push me off track." Carefully balancing a cacophony of contrasting elements including a lowkey guitar solo, country-inspired strings and a wealth of heavily synthesized backing vocals, 'Gretel' is a strong contender for (Sandy) Alex G's most accomplished piece to date. House of Sugar will be released via Domino on the 13th of September and we're well and truly stoked. -Holly Mullineaux
