As Johnson shares, the single explores “the transient, casual nature of relationships,” and for him it’s not enough to have a “magpie love,” instead he would “rather go for gold.” In this way, the song is an uplifting one; it’s about not losing faith and celebrating what’s to come through the joyous chorus that brings together Johnson’s indie-folk songwriting and co-writer Iain Archer’s Irish flair.
