Gabrielle Aplin is full of surprises, the latest of which is her new cut with salute, ‘That Girl’. The track opens in classic Aplin fashion, with some softly spoken lyrics over a lilting piano line. It becomes clear very quickly, however, that this is no normal Aplin ballad, as the chorus crashes in with a wave of full power synths over the empowering lyric "I don’t want to be that girl". It's big, it's bombastic, and everything we’ve come to expect from exciting young producer salute. The overall message of ‘That Girl’ is a strong two fingers up to all those who are "looking so confused when I act like a girl should do, that’s not up to you". Right on. - HM
