There ain’t no time like the present. That’s the overarching theme of REFS’ shiny new release, Now EP. As ever, we’re all about the songs here at TMR and so we’ve cherry-picked our personal favourite track from the EP - ‘What A Shame’. It’s a vibacious bop that you can really stick your heels into. What would the present be without a little bit of retrospective confusion and regretful questioning, which is exactly what REFS put across in ‘What A Shame’. “How did we end up here? / What are we doing?” are the repeated quandaries throughout this bombastic production. As the vibrant beats and samples push on, we’re not led any closer to an answer. However, what this track does is capture the mood of a moment. - Hannah Thacker
