Emerging from Berlin’s far-reaching and influential electronic music scene, Anneli Bentler - who performs under the moniker Queen Alaska - takes sounds familiar to techno music, such as 808 toms, and arranges them into a spacious, extra-terrestrial and fragile composition that sweeps you away. In Bentler’s dazzling single ‘Under My Skin’, the exact meaning of this digital daydream is uncertain, but it seems to hint at the anxiety and intoxication of loving from afar. The central line “go away or come closer just don’t stay in my imagination,” is reflected in Queen Alaska’s swerving production, with drifts off into quiet thuds and comes into clear focus with sharp beats and Bentler’s crystalline vocal. ‘Under My Skin’ is also met with a captivating music video, shot in hazy hues of purple, green and blue and centred around Queen Alaska as an individual wrapped in their own web of thoughts and feelings.
