PURPL H.L.M.

Young Brighton-based vocalist, songwriter and producer purpl has dropped an introspective new tune titled ‘H.L.M.’, representing the lyric ‘He loves me’, that appears throughout. Her flowing voice sits above a drifting, ambient accompaniment that avoids typical instrumentation and structure, and instead is made up of quiet pads and sound effects - the bass drum and snare are the only things holding the rhythm of the piece together. Production choices are made with an eye for detail here, as big hitting moments such as the introduction of the octave shifted vocal heard in the bridge are treated with poignance and prominence. Speaking of the track, purpl has said “HLM was an outlet for all the built up anger and pain I had leftover from a previous relationship and it kind of wrote itself. It's like a monologue of what I would say if I was stuck in a room with that person. It’s hard to let go of pain, even when you've moved on, so for this song instead of saying to myself 'no don't bother talking about it', I took the time to indulge.” -Dan Peeke
