PUMAROSA PRIESTESS (SHURA REMIX)

One of our many unwritten policies is, "run a mile from a remix, unless it improves the original in some way." Now, we don't necessarily believe that rising West London pop vocalist and producer Shura has knocked it out of the park and transformed Pumarosa's splendid debut single 'Priestess' with her subtle rework, but there's enough relatively subtle tweaks on show here to warrant an exception to our rule. And, Shura is fucking brilliant. So there. Pumarosa are one hell of a live band - all exotic rhythms and swirling psychedelic melodies - and if anything, Shura has harnessed that raw urgency to the song's benefit - transforming 'Priestess' into a dark, indie-disco floorfiller to be dropped at the point in the night when everybody is craving something heavier, druggier and more alien than The Horrors or even Primal Scream. - DC
