Releasing experimental dub under the name Practice, Mexico’s David Silva has dropped a truly unique piece of work in 'Jab Dub'. It might not be built around catchy melodies or accessible rhythms, but the almost collage-like Avant Garde sound of this track takes it to a place where it doesn’t need to. The slow build up sounds almost like a film score, with industrial sounds and effects combining to form an all-encompassing texture. While the references to its dub background are minimal, heavily edited vocals, the occasional introduction of a funky beat and what sound like demonic guitar chops give it the feeling of dub having been reconstructed from the ground up. It might not be a dancefloor banger, but the dark atmosphere and soundscape Practice has created certainly takes talent. - Dan Peeke
