In a world full of genres, sub-genres and sub-sub-genres, it’s quite rare to stumble upon a musical outfit that offers a genuinely unique sound, with an almost unseen formulation made up of rhythm section, two brass players and two rappers. New York based group Poetic Thrust have dropped their first single from their upcoming Off Deck EP, and it is “about mercilessly pursuing your vision with a pseudo-pirate etymology, on some Robin Hood shit.” ‘PSA’ opens with an atmospheric yet calm introduction, before a heavily swung, laid-back drum pattern guides the listener through delicately constructed verses and a sing-along hook. The perfect location of the brass countermelodies are what takes the track to a level higher above simple jazz-inspired rap and it cements the band a place in the competitive arena of exciting upcoming music. - Dan Peeke
