We picked piglet as one of our Top 20 of 2021, and for good reason. Starting the year with another affecting piece, 'oan' is a heartfelt attempt to navigate societal expectations vs the complicated reality of human behaviour. Showing concern for those close to him, Loane's lyrics are profound yet relatable as he explains: 'It's not quite lying and it's all quite new, but I've been really, really worrying about you'. As ever, the production is distinctively lo-fi, as circuit bent synthesizers and detuned guitars add to the disorientating message of the song. Shifting from sombre to uplifting towards the end of the piece, the eloquent refrain: 'Is this a phase we are gonna look back on, or is this something we're too tangled in to ever leave?' gets you right in the gut, before Loane confesses, 'I don't know what to do'.
