Brooklyn siblings Katie and Ben Marshall seem uniquely attuned to toeing the line between balls-out nostalgia and more carefully tempered methods of revisiting synthpop-through-the-decades. Their latest cut as paperwhite, 'Take Me Back', follows in the footsteps of 'Magic' and 'Got Me Goin', with Katie's saccharine coo nimbly picking its way through swells of Ben's fragrant keys and blockish beats. It's not the shiniest of their catalogue so far - 'Magic' still holds that accolade - but the dreamier-than-ever melody saddles up nicely to Haim/CHVRCHES in the thoughtful, sugared pop category.
