NOMBE DO WATCHU WANT TO ME 2.0

It’s been a year since NoMBe - aka Noah McBeth - released his epic, genre-blending They Might’ve Even Loved Me LP, and to mark the anniversary, MacBeth wanted to do something special, something unlike anything we’ve seen before. The result is one of the most ridiculously impressive collaborations we’ve possibly ever come across. For They Might’ve Even Loved Me - Re:Imagination, NoMBe and his team at Th3rd Brain called on as many artists as they could to recreate the album in their own image. The collaborators include many TMR favourites, such as Skott, Slenderbodies, Mikky Ekko, Transviolet and Snny, plus many more artists. Here NoMBe talks about the highly ambitious and successfully executed project: “It’s been almost a year that my first album They Might’ve Even Loved Me saw the light of day and since then, I tried to find innovative ways to go about the remixes. I didn’t want to do another remix package however. So the team and I went on a long quest to reach out to a wide array of artists that we loved and asked them to be part of something more original. It’s the most collaborative thing I’ve ever done and a huge undertaking especially for my team at Th3rd Brain. They’ve dealt with over 100 artists in the process!!!!!! Re-writing verses, Re-producing, re-tracking, re-imagining these original songs. This project is not a remix album. It is a labor of love reinterpreting They Might’ve Even Loved Me we call Re:Imagine. Endless gratitude to all the artists involved and the whole squad at 3B.” While it was a tough decision to pick just one List Pick from the fifteen brilliant reworks, we’ve decided to shine a light on Do Watchu Want to Me 2.0’ featuring IHF, Topaz Jones and ShaqIsDope. Compared to NoMBe’s original psych-pop number, Do Watchu Want to Me2.0 ’ is unrecognisable as it takes on new life as an hip-hop laced pop, which has taken a sharp u-turn into the realm of club beats and synth production, all topped off with Topaz Jones’ velveteen vocals and cheeky lines, plus strong guest rap from ShaqIsDope. This is but one example of the fantastic work that has been done on this re-release; a true labour of love. - Hannah Thacker
