We loved Minneapolis producer Morly's astoundingly intricate debut track, 'Seraphese', last year, so we read about her signing to failsafe indie, Cascine, this week with great pleasure. Katie Morley's first track on the label is 'And Sooner Than We Know It...', a cut from her EP, In Defense Of My Muse. Although the basic tools Morly uses - washed-out vocal samples, chopped-up percussion etc. - recur here, the overall direction feels very different, like she's spun the car around, driving it right into the sunset to the tune of blissed-out beats and winding, warming synth progressions. A welcome return from one of the States' most unorthodox emerging indie beatmakers. - DC
